Sunderland defender John O'Shea has praised how football can advocate for diversity and inclusion as the club gave their support for Stonewall's Rainbow Laces campaign this weekend.

The Black Cats are taking part in country-wide campaign, backed by the Premier League and its clubs, to show that LGBT people are welcome at every level of sport.

Activity across this weekend aims to show that sport is everyone's game and to ensure LGBT people feel welcome and included.

"Football provides a great platform to educate and inform people," O'Shea said ahead of Sunderland's fixture at Liverpool on Saturday.

"There is no place for discrimination of any kind in society and through the popularity of our sport, we can help to promote the positive message of inclusion."
